Our links with the local community through sport

Eastwood & District Primary Schools' Sports Association.

Each year we undertake a wide range of sporting activities with schools in the local area. These being:
  • Cross Country (Running event usually held at Brookhill Leys Primary & Nursery School).
  • District Sports (Athletics competition usually held at Harvey Haddon Stadium).
  • Swimming Gala (Swimming event held at Kimberley leisure Centre)
  • Football fixtures.
  • Netball and rounders competitions (Held at local schools)

We are really proud of our affiliation with this Association and have lots of parental support as we take our children into the much more competitive field of inter-school competitions. Our PE Coordinator attends the AGM for the Sports Association in the July of each year.

Other links with the Community.

Last year we were lucky to be able to access cricket training for our Year 5 and 6 children in the summer term. This finished with an entire KS2 tournament; a roaring success and one that we hope to take part in again this year.

In a similar ilk, we were also able to access training for upper KS2 from Eastwood Tennis Centre. They kindly sent a coach each week during the second part of the summer term and this again ended with an inter-school tournament at the tennis centre itself.

We like to invite the local press into school whenever we have sporting events that maybe of interest to our local community. (Sports Day, Olympic Swimmer's visit, Nepal sponsored run fundraiser).

Links with schools in our Academy Trust.

We have been working in partnership with schools in our Academy Trust to make links with the way that we teach and provide physical education for our pupils. We have spent time together during inset days and are beginning to formulate joint action plans outlining where those links will be the most successful. Joint events aiding transition were discussed, along with opportunities to access exciting PE equipment, training and support.
