Lunchtime provision at the Priory.
Last year we were able to employ Miss Pike as a Play Worker, who works every lunch break with your children out on the playground. Due to the success of Miss Pike's leadership on the playground, this is still the case and continues to have a positive impact of break time experiences for the children. Due to the success of having Miss Pike out on the play ground, we have extended this provision by incorporating our PPA cover teacher, Mr cannon on Wednesdays.
Miss Pike and Mr Cannon are able to encourage co-operative play and model how to interact with peers effectively out on the yard. With their enthusiasm and boundless energy; they are able to support the children in developing their skills and encouraging them to try sports/activities & games they may not have experienced before.
What is the impact of having a play worker?
We continue to see very few problems at lunchtimes and the children continue to be of the mind-set where they are willing to give new things a try and are confident to apply the skills they have learned with Miss Pike and the Playground Pals, to play effectively and harmoniously with their friends.
This year we have used £1,000 of our Sports Premium money to replenish and provide new, quality break time equipment for the children.
The Year 5 Playground pals enjoy the sense of responsibility and provide support for younger children in school at break, as well as looking after the play equipment and being an active part of our school community.
