Welcome to Spring 2!

 

We hope you're excited for a great half term ahead. Have a look at what we have been doing.

 

In this half term we are learning about: 

  • Come and See - our topics include Memorial Sacrifice - the Eucharist - the living memorial of Jesus's sacrifice and Sacrifice - exploring Lent as a time of aligning with the sacrifice already made by Jesus. 
  • Literacy - Wonder, Explanation Texts and then we will follow this with persuasive writing and older Literature by reading The Hobbit.
  • Maths - following our White Rose scheme 
  • Science - Living things and their habitats
  • Geography - Mountains 
  • Computing and DT - Junior Stem using control technology 
  • Music - delivered by outside providers where the children will each get an instrument to learn 
  • French - food and meals as well as recapping days, weeks and months alongside the weather. 
  • PE - two lessons a week with Mr Cannon - Monday and Thursday
  • PSHE - Statements to live by:
    • ‘I know what human dignity means and I show that I respect others.’
    • ‘I try to appreciate the beauty and wonder in the world around me.’
    • ‘I know that it is ok for me to make mistakes.’

As part of our Memorial Sacrifice Topic we explored what we had learnt so far using a silent debate - we remembered all the important knowledge and skills - 28.2.20

Some fabulous class reading as we begin our new class novel 'Wonder'.

Today Y5 opened the pen pal letters we've been waiting for, from fellow Y5 pupils at Alegra British School in Spain. We loved reading your letters and are now writing our replies - 14.1.20

This week Y5 visited the food bank. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to see where the food we collect in school goes and how it is used to help people in our community. A big thank you to the Eastwood Volunteer Bureau - 14.1.20

This week we finished our Stone Age topic and created flap books about Hillforts - take a look at our great work - 13.1.20
